Overhead Gantry Cranes Designed Around Your Operation

Overhead Gantry Cranes

Overhead Gantry Cranes Designed Around Your Operation

At ULS Lifting, we believe a lifting system should fit your operation — not the other way around. That’s why every gantry crane we deliver is engineered around your building, your loads and your workflow. From free-standing gantries that bring complete independence from existing roof steel, to ceiling-mounted underslung cranes that free up valuable floor space, we design, manufacture and install systems that improve safety and efficiency from day one.

Our cranes aren’t modular kits. They are fully bespoke, heavy-duty solutions capable of handling loads from a few kg's up to 20,000 kg and beyond, with spans that can reach up to 20 metres and beyond to suit your site. That means whatever your site conditions, we can provide a system that does the job reliably, day in and day out. Every ULS installation comes fully LOLER and PUWER compliant, designed and tested to the latest standards, giving you total confidence that your lifting operations meet regulatory requirements as well as practical ones.

Buying a Gantry crane can be complex, but it doesn't have to be.

Manual handling and inefficient lifting create downtime, bottlenecks and safety risks. Off-the-shelf systems rarely fit real-world environments, leaving businesses with compromise solutions.

That’s why every ULS overhead gantry crane is built bespoke — designed around your building, your lifting requirements and your industry. Whether you need a free-standing gantry or a ceiling-mounted system, we deliver cranes that improve safety, efficiency and reliability from day one.

Quick benefits:

  • Space efficiency – ceiling-mounted systems keep floor space clear, while freestanding gantries give independence from roof steel.

  • Ultra-low headroom designs – maximise lifting height, even in restricted spaces.

  • Low maintenance and long service life – durable construction keeps downtime to a minimum.

  • Easy installation – modular systems mean less disruption to your site.

  • Flexible and adaptable – extend, modify or relocate as your workflow changes.

  • Compliance assured – all cranes installed and certified to current UK safety standards.

  • Cost-effective lifting – improve safety and efficiency without the expense of a heavy-duty crane.

Types of Gantry Cranes We Supply

At ULS, we provide both free-standing gantry cranes and ceiling-mounted overhead cranes. Each has unique advantages depending on your site layout.

Free-Standing Gantry Cranes

  • Independent steelwork — no reliance on building structure
  • Suitable for heavy loads and wide spans
  • Can be relocated if your operation changes
  • Free Standing Gantry Cranes

A freestanding gantry crane is the most flexible option when your building structure isn’t strong enough to support a ceiling-mounted system. These cranes are supported entirely by their own steel framework, which means they don’t depend on roof beams or walls to carry the load.

Freestanding systems are especially popular in workshops, warehouses and production lines where layouts often change, or where future expansion is likely. Because the crane structure is self-supporting, it can be relocated or extended with minimal disruption, giving you a long-term solution that adapts as your business grows.

At ULS, we design freestanding gantry cranes for loads up to 2000 kg, with spans of up to 12 metres. Every frame is engineered for stability and safety, bolted securely to your floor and designed to work seamlessly with electric chain hoists, manual hoists or radio remote-controlled systems.

The result is a robust, reliable lifting solution that creates a safe and efficient workflow — without compromise on headroom or load capacity.

Ceiling-Mounted (Underslung) Overhead Cranes

  • Mounted directly to your building support steelwork
  • Maximises floor space and working area
  • Ideal for sites with low headroom or restricted floor access
  • Free Standing Gantry Crane

When floor space is at a premium, a ceiling-mounted crane (sometimes called an underslung crane) offers the ideal solution. Instead of occupying valuable floor area, the crane runs on tracks fixed directly to your roof steel or suspended from specially designed brackets.

This approach keeps the floor completely clear for people, machinery and materials, while still providing full coverage of your working footprint. It also allows for smooth, effortless load movement across the whole span of your workspace.

Ceiling-mounted light gantry cranes are especially effective in smaller workshops, clean production areas and facilities where floor access must remain unobstructed. ULS designs systems with ultra-low headroom options, making it possible to maximise lifting height even in buildings with restricted vertical clearance.

With capacities up to 2000 kg, our ceiling-mounted systems combine versatility with cost-effectiveness, allowing you to move loads quickly and safely without investing in a heavy-duty overhead travelling crane.

Like all ULS cranes, these systems are supplied LOLER and PUWER compliant, and can be integrated with your preferred lifting equipment — from manual hoists to electric chain hoists with pendant or radio control.

Gantry and Overhead Cranes Engineered to Your Specification

  • Smooth, low-effort travel in all directions thanks to enclosed track design.

  • Manual push-pull or powered travel options to suit your operation.

  • Robust steel construction with powder-coated, galvanised or stainless finishes.

  • Wide range of fixing brackets for flexibility in mounting.
