Abtech ABRALF 15m Two-Way Locking Rescue System. The Abtech ABRALF is a heavy-duty, 15m auto-locking pulley system engineered for high-stakes rescue, confined space entry, and work suspension. Unlike standard pulleys, the ABRALF features an integrated over-speed brake that automatically engages and locks the line if it detects a sudden acceleration or fall, providing an immediate safety net for the user.

Constructed from high-grade aluminium and designed for use with 11mm EN1891-A ropes, the ABRALF is a versatile "hauler" that can be configured into 3:1 or 5:1 mechanical advantage systems using its load-rated becket eye.

Key Features & Benefits

Automatic Fall Protection: The centrifugal over-speed brake locks the rope instantly in the event of a fall, preventing uncontrolled descents.

Mechanical Advantage Ready: Features a load-rated becket eye, allowing you to integrate additional pulleys to create high-efficiency 3:1 or 5:1 lifting ratios.

Two-Way Operation: Designed for both lifting and lowering, making it an essential tool for work positioning and technical rescue.

Rugged Aluminium Build: Lightweight yet incredibly durable, the ABRALF is built to withstand the rigours of industrial maintenance and emergency response.

High Load Rating: Certified for a maximum user weight of 350kg (system dependent), accommodating two-person rescue loads.

Maintenance & Servicing Requirements

To ensure the Abtech ABRALF remains in peak operational condition and complies with safety regulations, the following inspection regime must be followed:

1. Pre-Use Inspection (User Check)

Before every single use, a competent person must perform a visual and functional check:

  • Mechanical Function: Pull the rope sharply to ensure the over-speed brake engages and locks the line instantly.

  • Housing & Hardware: Inspect the aluminium body for cracks, significant dents, or signs of heat friction.

  • Rope Integrity: Check the 11mm EN1891-A rope for cuts, abrasions, "furring," or chemical contamination. Ensure the termination stitching is intact.

  • Cleanliness: Ensure the device is free from grit, dirt, or oil that could interfere with the internal braking cams.

2. Periodic Thorough Examination (6 or 12 Months)

Under LOLER and BS EN 365, this equipment must undergo a "Thorough Examination" by a qualified inspector:

  • Rescue Equipment: Every 6 months (as it is used for lifting people).

  • Work Positioning: At least every 12 months.

  • Record Keeping: All inspections must be recorded in a formal equipment log, noting the serial number and date of next inspection.

3. Professional Servicing & Recertification

Unlike a standard pulley, the ABRALF has internal moving parts.

  • Manufacturer Service: Abtech recommends that the device be returned to an authorized service center for a full strip-down, internal clean, and mechanical recertification if it has been involved in a fall or shows signs of internal wear.

  • Life Span: While the metal hardware has a potentially indefinite life (subject to passing inspections), the textile rope component typically has a maximum lifespan of 10 years from the date of manufacture, even if unused.

4. Storage & Care

  • Cleaning: Clean the metal casing with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Do not submerge the mechanical head in degreasers.

  • Drying: If the rope or device gets wet, allow it to dry naturally in a well-ventilated area away from direct heat or sunlight.

  • Storage: Store in a cool, dry place (ideally in a dedicated kit bag) away from UV light and corrosive chemicals.
