Maintenance & Servicing Procedure

To ensure the longevity of your BDB Drop Bottom Skip and remain compliant with PUWER and LOLER regulations, we recommend the following inspection schedule.

Daily Pre-Use Checks (Operator)

Visual Inspection: Check for any obvious signs of structural damage, cracked welds, or excessive rust.

Release Mechanism: Ensure the manual pull-cord is not frayed and that the spring-loaded lever moves freely.

Safety Chain: Confirm the safety securing chain and lynch pin are present and undamaged.

Debris Check: Ensure the base hinges and locking latches are free from debris or waste buildup that could prevent a secure lock.

Weekly Maintenance

Cleaning: Thoroughly wash out the interior of the skip to remove residue that can cause corrosion or jam the locking mechanism.

Lubrication: Apply grease to the pivot bars, latches, and locking hooks. Apply a light oil to the release springs to ensure smooth semi-automatic operation.

Fasteners: Check all bolts and nuts are tight, specifically around the hinge points and fork pocket attachments.

Statutory Examinations (LOLER)

6-Monthly Inspection: Because this skip is a forklift attachment used for lifting loads, it must be subjected to a Thorough Examination by a Competent Person every 6 months in accordance with LOLER 1998.

Certification: ULS Lifting provides an initial Certificate of Conformity. It is the owner's responsibility to maintain a register of ongoing 6-monthly inspections.

Warning: If any distortion is found in the fork pockets or if the base fails to lock automatically when lowered, the unit must be withdrawn from service immediately and reported to a supervisor.
